Beth Durney, VMD
Dr. Durney is a native Washingtonian. She grew up on Capitol Hill, and attended Capitol Hill Day School for elementary school before moving on to The Maret School for high school. She then moved to Virginia in 1998 to attend Washington and Lee University for her undergraduate work. During all that time, Dr. Durney was busy loving any animals that were nearby, from her first guinea pig (Ginger!) to the pets of her friends, and, of course, and other dogs, cats, and horses she could get her hands on. Following college, Dr. Durney returned to the Washington area for several years. During that time she rode steeplechase horses in Middleburg, and also worked as a veterinary assistant for several practices in the area (both small animal and equine oriented). She then attended the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine. During her time in Philadelphia, she participated in several programs to support abandoned animals, including co-chairing a kitten fostering program with one of her fellow vet students. Though she initially thought she would become an equine veterinarian, Dr. Durney ultimately decided to keep horses a hobby and focus her career on small animal medicine. Upon receiving her VMD in 2010, Dr. Durney then moved on to Manhattan, where she completed an intensive one year rotating internship at The Animal Medical Center. Dr. Durney has finally returned to the DC area for the third time, this time for good. She currently lives on Capitol Hill with her husband and their dog, an elderly mutt named Dingo. When she is not at CityPaws, she enjoys riding horses, cooking meals with family and friends, travel, yoga, and stand up paddling.

Meg Hamilton, VMD
Dr. Hamilton was raised in Philadelphia, Pa. and graduated from Randolph-Macon College in Ashland, Virginia. She moved to Washington, D.C. after graduation where she worked for the US Department of Justice as a paralegal for 6 years before vet school.
Dr. Hamilton has always loved animals. She grew up with a house full of animals, had her own neighborhood pet-sitting service, and volunteered for various animal shelters over the years. Although she enjoyed her work for the government after college, she decided that Veterinary Medicine was the career she wished to pursue so she moved back to Philadelphia and graduated from Veterinary School at the University of Pennsylvania in 2007. Dr. Hamilton practiced in Stroudsburg, Pa for 2 years before joining CityPaws in July 2009. She is excited to be back in DC and looks forward to getting to know the clients and pets who visit CityPaws.

Dan Teich, DVM
Originally hails from the Garden State and attended Rutgers University, Cook College, for his degree in animal sciences. He then obtained his DVM from The Ohio State University in 2003. Dr. Teich completed six months of an internship in small animal medicine and surgery then dabbled in politics helping to advance the legislative agenda of the American Veterinary Medical Association, followed by working as a research consultant for the Association of the American Veterinary Medical Colleges. He returned to clinical medicine and has been practicing in the District ever since. Dr. Teich also served as the Medical Director of the National Capital Area Spay & Neuter Center where he performed in the area of 10,000 surgeries. He joined CityPaws in 2007 and has never left.
Dr. Teich usually introduces himself as “Dan” to the patient first and tries to ensure the pet that he or she will have a good time (or at least for a few minutes). His exam room does not appear to be a normal doctor visit – he usually wears a baseball hat backwards and sits on the floor. He has been spotted in a labcoat on rare occasions.
He lives on Capitol Hill with his sidekick, Brian, a mostly Golden Retriever. Brian usually goes everywhere with Dr. Teich and can frequently be seen in the clinic. His two catfish, which are ancient and only 2 inches in length, live in a 90 gallon fishtank. His hobbies include rock hunting, escaping, his Ducati motorcycle and the outdoors. |

Kate joined the CityPaws team in April 2009. She is originally from Herkimer New York, a small town in upstate. Kate grew up on a dairy farm, which is where her love of animals formed. She moved to Washington DC in 2001(moved to Wilmington, NC for part of 2008 then returned back to DC), prior to that she lived in San Diego, CA and Atlanta, GA where she worked in a variety of business settings; an executive assistant for the President of a large insurance company, managed an international software company and help organize and run a non profit educational program.
